“I was born poor, but I will die wealthy” – Wizkid wasn’t joking!

27 year old Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun known professionally as Wizkid is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. He started recording music at age 11.

Wizkid who rose to prominence in 2010 and has remained on top ever since has revealed that though he was born poor and broke, he plans to die wealthy.

Wizkid also known as Starboy took to his Twitter handle to throw a light into his background and shed more light into what his future looks like.

In a recent interview, Wizkid had talked about what growing up looked like and how his background was instrumental to his success today.

Growing up was going through everything I went through in life. I don’t think I will be who I am if I didn’t go through what I did while I was growing up. All the stress, poverty and everything I went through have shaped me into who I am today.

According to Wizkid, he started doing his music in the suburbs of Surulere, especially Shitta, known as small London.

There is no part of Surulere I have not done music. There are so many stories and music I will like to do about the areas I used to go and perform while growing up. I use to go to all the carnivals every December in every streets in Surulere; like Lawanson, Ojuelegba and so on. Nobody paid me money for performing in events in those days. I have paid my dues. 

Apparently, he has paid his dues and he is enjoying his moment… Considering the fact that Forbes recently mentioned his as one of the top ten richest African entertainers.

So, Wizkid wasn’t joking when he said he plans to die wealthy!
