Burna Boy Declares Himself Best African Artiste Since Fela

Nigerian afropop heavyweight, Burna Boy has declared himself the best artiste out of Africa since Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.

Tweeting on Tuesday night, the Grammy nominee said he always knew he was the best and that everyone else considered to be the best knows him as the best.

He tweeted, “FACT! I always knew I was and I am THE BEST. Everyone you think is the best KNOWS I’m BEST since Fela Kuti. But
@timayatimaya
told me something a long time ago that made me not care about being the best. “The World can do without the Best” the world will still spin regardless.”

His post did not go down well with fans as many considered his statement disrespectful to legendary acts in the industry.

The likes of Wizkid, Davido, Dbanj, 2baba, Sound Sultan and Olamide were mentioned as Nigerians attempted to remind Burna of the artistes who took African music to the Western audience.

Defiant, Burna responded with another tweet: “Lol. NOBODY paved shit for me. Everybody dey find them own. I bin Out here, if you knew the way they made us look weak by begging and paying the western world to like us you will see that no table was set and I’m the one that brought you the Respect you currently enjoy.”

Burna Boy was nominated for the 2020 Grammys for best world album, an award he lost to the legendary Angelique Kidjo.
