Nigerian singer Damini Ogulu aka Burna Boy has again made the news after it was revealed by a Twitter user how a married man was shot after the singer made passes at his wife.
According to the Lagos State Police Commissioner’s Special Squad, five policemen attached to the singer, have been detained for attempted murder after they shot two persons— Irebami Lawrence and another identified simply as Tolu— at Club Cubana on Victoria Island, Lagos, on Wednesday.
Reports have it that issues started after the singer and his police escorts visited the nightclub around 4 am on June 8. While 4 of the escorts, one of the policemen, identified as Inspector Ibrahim, accompanied the Grammy-Award-winning artiste into the club.
According to multiple witness statements, Burna was sitting in the VIP section with three women when he spotted another woman whom he asked the said Inspector Ibrahim to invite the woman to join him.
The lady’s husband was infuriated, slamming the singer for making advances on his wife. Things became heated in no time and Ibrahim reportedly brought out his gun and shot multiple times while Burna Boy was laughing.
27-year-old Lawrence was shot in the thigh, and his friend, Tolu, was hit in the head by a bullet.
Burna Boy and his crew reportedly drove to another place before leaving for Lekki Phase 1.
According to a top police source; “Aware of what he had done, Burna Boy took the next flight out without even informing the policemen. He only made a video call to them to inform them that he had traveled to Spain. All his police escorts have been arrested and are currently at the Command headquarters.”
No one from Burna Boy’s team at the time of report has spoken on the issue nor has the management of club Cubana, released a statement.
