When one is destined to be great, famous and successful in life, there is no ‘Jupiter’, let alone, any mortal, that can stop that person from attaining that seemingly insurmountable status. Some are born great; some attain greatness through dint of hard work, while some have greatness thrust on them via merited favour.
All these indices were implicitly applicable to the meteoric rise of Fuji Lord and music impresario, Alhaji (Dr.) King Wasiu Ayinde Omogbolahan Marshal, popularly known as K-1, or better still K-1 de Ultimate, when he was days back, against all negative and clandestine machinations, officially installed as the first ever Maiyegun of Yorubaland by the Iku Baba Yeye, HRM, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi 1, CON, the Alaafin of Oyo, in his sprawling palace in Oyo.
Instructively, such a sensitive title couldn’t have come without some invisible hands of distractions, but when fate, destiny and providence are at work, either jointly or solely, what will be will always be, Quo Cera Cera. And so it was on Monday, January 13, 2019, when all roads led to the ancient town of Oyo, with the Capo de Tuti himself, K-1, leading a convoy of over 200 state-of-the-art wonder-on-land auto machines, in his purposely purchased Rolls Royce and Bentley to the expansive palace of the Royal Father, Oba Adeyemi, where he was officially and graciously installed as the pioneer Maiyegun of Yorubaland.
The event was captured n the full glare, approval and attestation of many great sons and daughters of Yorubaland at home and in Diaspora, who all converged at the Alaafin’s palace to witness the epoch-making and ground–breaking event of K-1’s installation as the numero uno Maiyegun of Yorubland.
With the array of distinguished personalities of the Yoruba ethnic group, and even a powerful Federal Government delegation, led by two high-ranking cabinet ministers namely Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and Lai Mohammed , a number of first class Yoruba Obas, High Chiefs, captains of industry, top social and political stakeholders, traditional institutions and all and sundry in attendance at the all embracing event, even when it took place on a working day; it was obvious and readily discernible that the Olu Aye of Fuji, K-1, is indeed a plausible and veritable honoree of the prestigious title which was conferred on him to set the peace, which the Iku Baba Yeye went down memory lane to set the records straight in proper perspective, vis-a-viz the emergence and eventual installation of K-1 as Maiyegun of Yorubaland, after years of proper scrutiny and perusals.
It therefore goes without saying that mercurial K-1, a music aficionado and living legend of the Fuji music genre-cum-showbiz impresario, couldn’t have merited this top notch chieftaincy title, without an avalanche of positive and progressive contributions in many positive spheres of life, over the decades, especially as many of his contributions tilt towards his fellow Yoruba nationals and the country at large.
At this musical career level, you just can’t take it away from Alhaji, now Maiyegun, that he has, virtually, through his many songs and other ventures, preached peace, harmony and tranquility, aimed basically towards the unbridled unification of the Yoruba race, a cause he has unrepentantly remained committed to, even when some people’s oxen are gored.
He readily qualifies as an unrepentant ambassador of the Yoruba nation, through his music, which he has taken to many nations of the world especially the Western World, and has garnered many awards, recognitions, laurels and badges and still counting.
In another vein, outside music, K-1 has shown the other side of him as a humanitarian, philanthropist, cheerful giver to individuals and donor to sundry worthy causes in the land, without let or hindrance; a trait in K-1 that cuts across many barriers nay ethnic, religion, gender, age and what have you.
Alhaji (Dr,) Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, from an illustrious family of Ijebu-Ode origin in Ogun State, but born, honed and bred in Lagos Island, is a man of awesome attributes; the accomplished Fuji-improvised musician, astute businessman nay employer of labour, and above all a philanthropist par excellence,
is indeed a figure of global repute, who has excelled in his long chequered, impressive and glorious career. Indeed, he is a man of many firsts, and ditto his latest first as Maiyegun of Yorubaland, an attempt to chronicle his hitherto many firsts, could amount to an exercise in futility.
His sterling contributions, especially in the socio-cultural-economic spheres are unparalleled; his pioneering role in the new wave of modern Fuji music is legendary, while his exceptional managerial acumen and unique diligence stand him out as a shining star among his contemporaries.
His unprecedented installation as the first Maiyegun of Yorubland therefore comes as no surprise to the discerning ones as an honour and status elevation meritoriously and richly-deserved.
All Hail K-1 as the Ist Maiyegun of Yorubaland as he navigates the Yoruba nation terrain as a peacemaker, source of unification and bridge builder of all entities in the Yoruba race at home and abroad. Salutations to the Maiyegun of Yorubaland, as the coming years can only spur him to more contributions to his fellow brethren of Yoruba stock.
