A new comedy movie, PayDay, has been released to cinemas across the country.
Speaking at the premiere held in Lagos on Monday, the director of PayDay, Chata Chukwu, said the story was based on his experience as an individual and the experiences of people dear to him.
He stated that though he had the opportunity to work with household names, he wanted people who could bring out the best in the movie.
He explained further, “I am very proud of the cast of the film because everyone gave their best to its success. PayDay is for the young adults; so, I needed to use young actors.
“I want to tell African stories to the global audience. With the success of Black Panther, the world has started paying attention to the African Cinema and I feel that as filmmakers, it is our duty to tell stories that are originally African to the world.”
Produced by Orwi Manny Ameh, Payday follows the story of two best friends and flatmates, Paul and Ortega, who have only 24 hours to renew their house rent or leave the apartment. They, however, embark on an overnight scheme to recover the rent, which leads to a dangerous encounter.
The movie features actors like Bisola Aiyeola, Baaj Adebule, Comedian Ebiye Victor, Mawuli Gavor, Meg Otanwa and Zack Orji.
Speaking about his experience on set, Adebule, who plays the role of Paul in the movie, stated, “It took a lot of learning, research and patience as interpreting comedy requires getting your timing right. We shot both in Lagos and Abuja, and we did a lot of night shoots too.”
