2026 Election Tension Rises as PDP, NNPP Clash Over Adeleke’s Leadership

Political tension is mounting in Osun State as the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) clashed on Monday over calls to unseat Governor Ademola Adeleke in the 2026 governorship election.
NNPP chairman, Dr. Tosin Odeyemi, criticized Adeleke’s leadership, claiming his administration lacks direction and is driven by personal interest rather than genuine development. He called on opposition parties to unite and present a credible candidate to challenge Adeleke at the polls.
In a swift rebuttal, the PDP dismissed the NNPP’s claims as politically motivated and baseless. According to a statement by the party’s Director of Media and Publicity, Oladele Bamiji, Adeleke’s achievements speak for themselves — including over 200km of road projects, the state’s first flyover in Ile-Ife, improved traffic infrastructure in Osogbo, salary arrears clearance, and a free health insurance scheme for pensioners and persons with disabilities.
The PDP accused Odeyemi of political bitterness and reaffirmed Adeleke’s commitment to delivering impactful governance, insisting the governor remains focused despite political distractions.
As the 2026 election draws closer, the war of words between both parties signals a heated contest ahead in Osun’s political landscape.
