Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Ogun State have arrested a 65-year-old man, Rojaiye Balogun, for allegedly raping his 17-year-old daughter.
The state corps Commandant of the NSCDC, Kolawole Taiwo, while parading the suspect at the command headquarters in Abeokuta on Thursday, said he was arrested on Wednesday at Imomo-Ijebu, in the Ijebu Ode Local Government Area of the state.
Taiwo disclosed that the case was reported to the Anti-Human Trafficking, Irregular Migration Unit of the command by a relative of the alleged victim.
He noted that the suspect confessed to having sexual encounter with his daughter, saying it was the work of the devil.
The NSCDC boss added that the case would be investigated and if the suspect was found guilty, he would be prosecuted.
He said, “The increasing cases of incest and violence against girls in the society have become worrisome. Parents, according to the Child Right Act, have a duty to protect their children.”
Speaking to journalists, Balogun, who claimed that the victim was not his biological daughter, said he slept with her once when her mother travelled.
But the alleged victim disputed the claim, saying he raped her four times.
The alleged victim said the father lied that she was not his biological daughter.
She said the last time Balogun raped her, he promised to give her N1,000 to allow him to sleep with her, “and I refused, but he forced himself on me.”
The teenager said she had reported the matter to her mother several times, but she never believed her, adding that an uncle took her to report the case at the NSCDC office.
