Aregbesola’s hometown monarch snubs former governor, backs Oyetola for second term

The Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesaland, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran, has said that Ijesa people are resolute to return Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, for a second term in office.

The monarch said this on Wednesday during Oyetola’s strategic engagement tour of Ijesa South Federal Constituency.

Aromolaran, who is the traditional ruler of the hometown of Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, described Oyetola as a game-changer, stressing that the Ijesa people were happy with his achievements in the last three years.

Aregbesola, who is Oyetola’s predecessor, is backing a former Secretary to the State Government, Moshood Adeoti, for Saturday’s primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

But his hometown’s monarch, who spoke in his palace, commended Oyetola for turning around the socio-economic fortune of the state despite the meagre resources at his disposal.

He also lauded the governor for the sustenance of peace in the state.

“I profess to you that you’re a new governor. I know why I said it. I greet you warmly and welcome you into the palace of Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesaland. Whoever I tell is a governor will become governor. This is a divine gift,” he said.

“This is not a place to talk long. The message has been passed already. We are going to pay you back. As far as Ijesaland is concerned, we don’t have any other person to vote for except you. Thousands of aspirants may come out to contest, but you’re our anointed candidate, and we are ready to vote massively for you.

“Your good works have spoken for you. I commend you for your modest achievements and I’m confident that God will reward you. We’ve seen all you’re doing to transform the state. You’re doing excellently well.”

Responding, Oyetola urged party loyalists to be wary of those “buying membership slips.”

He expressed confidence in the strength of the party to elect him at the primary and ensure his emergence at the July 16 governorship election.
