Tragedy in Gombe: Five Killed, 13 Injured in Truck Accident After Easter Prayer

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of five persons and injuries to 13 others in a tragic road crash involving a truck on the Billiri-Gombe Road in Gombe State.

The accident occurred early Monday at Tashan Gona, Billiri LGA, as worshippers were returning from an Easter prayer ground. According to FRSC Sector Commander Samson Kaura, the victims include two male adults and three female adults, while the injured—10 women and 3 men—suffered fractures and open wounds.

Kaura attributed the crash to excessive speeding and urged motorists to observe the 30 km/h limit in populated areas to avoid such devastating incidents. The victims were rushed to multiple hospitals, including Billiri General Hospital and Gombe Specialist Hospital, for treatment.

The truck driver, now in police custody, narrowly escaped mob justice after enraged residents set the grain-loaded vehicle ablaze. Gombe police spokesperson, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, confirmed that order has been restored, and the route is now safe for use.
