
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu just approved the deployment of 65 ambassador-designates and high commissioners to represent Nigeria in various countries and international organisations.
The list includes several well-known political figures and public official like Former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode has been assigned to Germany, while presidential aide Reno Omokri will serve as Nigeria’s envoy to Mexico.
In a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, it was disclosed that the postings consist of 34 non-career ambassadors alongside 31 career diplomats.
Former Interior Minister and ex-Katsina State governor Abdulrahman Dambazau has been posted to Beijing, China. Senator Jimoh Ibrahim will represent Nigeria at the United Nations as the country’s Permanent Representative.
Other notable appointments include former Abia State governor Okezie Ikpeazu to Spain, former Minister of Health Isaac Adewole to Canada, and Senator Ita Enang to South Africa.
Also on the list are former Enugu State governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, who will head to Greece, and Senator Grace Bent, posted to Togo.
The Presidency said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has begun the process of securing agrément from the host nations. This approval is required before ambassadors can officially assume their duties.
President Tinubu has also directed the ministry to organise an induction programme for the newly appointed envoys.
The Senate had earlier cleared the nominees in December 2025 after conducting their screening through the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs.
