Akpabio Petitions IGP Over Alleged Assassination Claim by Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, seeking a probe into what he described as a “false and malicious” assassination allegation made against him by suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

In a letter dated April 3, 2025, Akpabio accused the Kogi Central politician of criminal defamation and urged her prosecution. The petition was also sent to the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi.

The controversy began after Akpoti-Uduaghan alleged during a homecoming event in Kogi that Akpabio instructed former Governor Yahaya Bello and Governor Usman Ododo to orchestrate her assassination and frame it on her constituents.

Akpabio denied the claim, calling it a “heinous lie” aimed at inciting unrest and damaging his reputation. He called for a swift investigation and prosecution for defamation, incitement, and breach of peace.
