There is palpable tension in Bida town in Niger state as tanker drivers blocked all the major exits in the town and prevented motorists from going in and out of the town.
All the major roads within the town have been blocked by the tanker drivers to protest the deplorable condition of the bad roads in the state, especially Bida-Lapai-Lambata Road.
Passengers travelling to various states in the East, South, North-West, North-East and North Central are now stranded.
Due to the development, hoodlums now extort commercial motorcyclists as they charge between ₦20 and ₦50 before they are allowed access to the minor roads left by the tanker drivers.
The situation, especially in the Esso area of Bida Town, is alarming as all vehicles stand still without movement.
Residents of the town have called on the State Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, to, as a matter of urgency, intervene before the situation gets out of hand.
