At least four people were killed and more than a dozen others sustained varying degrees of injuries when a pick-up van struck an improvised explosive device along the Maiduguri-Damboa highway in Borno State on Wednesday, sources said.

BusinessDay gathered that the incident occurred at approximately 2:30 pm in Komala village near Gidan Kajji in Damboa local government area of Borno State on Wednesday. Komala is approximately 70 kilometres from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

According to a vigilante source, the landmines buried on the highway led to the deaths of at least four passengers and the injury of others.

We lost four people to the tragic incident that occurred hours ago. The IED was suspected to have been buried by the terrorists to wreak havoc on innocent travellers,” the source said.
