CSOs Back Falana, Urge Tinubu to Sack Rivers Sole Administrator

A coalition of 100 civil society organisations under the banner Civic Room for Rule of Law has called on President Bola Tinubu to remove Rivers State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-ete Ibas (rtd.), citing disregard for presidential directives and the rule of law.

The group backed senior lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), who earlier condemned Ibas’ continued stay in office. They accused Ibas of making appointments and removing officials loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara without any constitutional backing or regulatory framework from the President.

In a statement signed by Barrister Maxwell Egboh, the coalition said Ibas’ actions have intensified the legal and political crisis in Rivers State, calling them a “blatant disregard for the President’s orders” and a “threat to democratic institutions.”

“The people of Rivers State deserve better than to be governed by an unelected official who disregards the law with impunity,” the statement read.

The CSOs commended the House of Representatives’ Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State for summoning Ibas and urged them to conduct a thorough investigation into his actions. They pledged to continue advocating for accountability and the rule of law while monitoring developments in the state.
