EFCC denies abduction, forced resignation of NNPCL boss

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has strongly denied a widely circulated report alleging that its Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, abducted and forced Bayo Ojulari, Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to resign.
Describing the report as “ridiculous and mischievous,” credible sources within the anti-graft agency, said there was no truth to the claims making the rounds on some online platforms and social media.
The EFCC clarified that Olukoyede had no authority to hire or fire individuals in other Government agencies, let alone compel someone to vacate their position.
“Olukoyede is not the appointing authority. He does not need to abduct or force anyone to resign.
“If there is a need to hold anyone accountable, the proper channel is followed through formal invitation or written communication. Anything outside of that is a fabrication”, the source stated.
The Commission maintained that Olukoyede, who heads Nigeria’s foremost anti-corruption agency, is a law-abiding official and not one to resort to intimidation or coercion
EFCC Chairman is not a bully. He has never abducted, coerced, tortured, or compelled anyone to resign at any time.
“Such allegations are baseless and should be treated as part of the growing wave of fake news”, the source insisted.
The Commission urged the public to disregard the false narrative and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of misleading citizens and damaging reputations.
The rumour, which trended during the weekend, alleged that the EFCC boss forced the NNPCL GCEO to resign amid corruption-related investigations.
