Expedite action on petitions against indicted public officials, CSOs urge Reps
ABUJA – A coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), led by the Network Against Corruption and Trafficking Initiative (NACAT), has urged the House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions to accelerate its efforts in addressing petitions against indicted public officials.
The CSOs expressed concerns over the delayed response to petitions highlighting alleged financial infractions committed by individuals holding public office. These infractions include money laundering, corruption, abuse of office, and false asset declarations.
Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday, Iteveh Nurudeen, the group’s Director, Public Relations, highlighted the significance of restoring public trust and confidence in the government by swiftly addressing allegations of misconduct and financial impropriety.
The coalition underscored the vital role of the House Committee on Public Petitions in ensuring justice and fairness in the handling of these cases.
They urged the committee members to remain steadfast in their duties and to prioritize the resolution of petitions against indicted public officials.
“We have submitted all petitions to the committee and have been informed that the indicted parties have been summoned. We urge the committee to diligently address these issues,” Nurudeen added.
The CSOs called on President Tinubu to build on his administration’s commitment to fiscal integrity and governance accountability by supporting legislative efforts to tackle the corrupt activities undermining the government’s reformative ‘Hope’ mantra.
“We hold evidence of financial crimes by past State governors from 2011 to 2023 and other public officials. These will be forwarded to anti-corruption agencies after our audit and final investigation,” Nurudeen asserted.
