Fears of rising cases of Donovanosis, an STI that can me the private part rot away

Experts are apparently warning that cases of Donovanosis, a rare sexually transmitted infection (STI) that can rot your genitals, are edging up in England.

The STI was thought to be more common in India, Brazil and New Guinea.

Even before the pandemic had begun it was becoming more prevalent, up from 19 cases in 2016 to 30 three years later.

Internet searches for “sexually transmitted infections” have doubled in the last month alone in the UK, suggesting actual numbers may be higher.

The symptoms of Donovanosis include foul-smelling lesions and lumps around the anus and genitals, and only appear a month after contact.

The infection is treatable. “Multiple antimicrobial regimens have been effective; however, only a limited number of controlled trials have been published,” USA’s Center for Disease Control (CDC) says.
