‘I was never arrested’ — NURTW treasurer, Mustapha Sego, counters police [VIDEO]

Treasurer of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Lagos, Mustapha Adekunle (aka Sego), has rubbished the claim made by the police that they arrested him.

The police, on Monday, said Sego was arrested as a prime suspect in the recent deadly clashes between warring NURTW factions in Idumota and other areas of Lagos Island.

Sego, in a statement issued today, had denied the claim.

The statement reads:

“My attention has been drawn to a piece of information in circulation to the effect that I was arrested yesterday by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in connection with the fracas that erupted at the Idumota area of Lagos Island and crippled commercial activities in the area.

“For the record, I was only invited in for questioning at the Zone 2 police command, Onikan.

“As a stakeholder on the Island, peace-loving resident of the state and the state treasurer of the NURTW, I expressed how I felt about the fracas to the police during interrogations and found was innocent of the accusations, then left the command around 10 pm as the police continued their investigations.

“I am not in any way a principal suspect as alleged or connected to any parties involved in the fracas. I have always maintained peace and harmony amongst the youth and residents of where I grew up on the Island.
