Ijoba Lande Alleges Funke Akindele Paid Him Just N90k for a Month of Work on Set

Popular Nigerian skit maker and actor, Ijoba Lande, has stirred reactions online after alleging that he received only N90,000 for an entire month of work on a movie set with celebrated filmmaker and actress, Funke Akindele.
In a video shared on social media, Lande opened up about his experience working at Amen Estate, where Akindele’s productions are often shot. He said his excitement about working with the star led him to skip fee negotiations, hoping the opportunity would lead to more visibility and future collaborations.
“I was excited to go and work with Aunty Funke. I didn’t want to charge her so it won’t look like I didn’t want to work with her again,” he explained.
According to Lande, a crew member named Wendy later presented a document stating his monthly pay would be N90,000. Despite his initial shock, he signed it—trusting that things might change along the way. However, at the end of the month, he was paid exactly what the document stated, with no review or bonus.
“For a whole month, Funke Akindele did not give me N150,000. I swear by Almighty God,” he said.
He used the experience to advise up-and-coming entertainers not to idolise industry veterans at the cost of their own value.
“Anybody that wants to use you, don’t see them as God,” he warned.
Reflecting on the situation, he admitted that his lack of proper education played a role in his decision to sign the agreement without fully considering the implications.
“It’s good to be educated. If I was properly educated, I wouldn’t have signed that paper.”
As of now, Funke Akindele has not responded to the claims. The video has since sparked conversations about fair pay, exploitation, and the importance of contract literacy in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
