Imo LGA election: I did not endorse any aspirant – Uzodimma

The Imo state Governor, Hope Uzodimma, on Monday said there was never a time he endorsed any aspirant ahead of the September 21, 2024 local government elections in the state.

Uzodimma spoke through his Senior Special Adviser, SSA, on Electronic and Creative Media, Ambrose Nwaogwugwu, while reacting to the report on social media saying that Uzodimma has endorsed aspirants for the LG elections in Imo.According to Nwaogwugwu, he said: “For the umpteenth time, we are compelled to issue this press release to correct the misleading information circulating on social media and other platforms, claiming that the executive governor of Imo State, His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON, has endorsed certain aspirants in a purported endorsement lists in circulation for the forthcoming Local Government Area (LGA) elections across the 27 LGAs and in 305 wards for councillorship positions in Imo State.

We want to categorically state that this claim is false and misleading. Governor Uzodimma has not endorsed any aspirant for the elections, neither privately nor publicly. There is no list of endorsed aspirants existing anywhere, and the Governor has not made any statements to that effect and will not make.“During the recent Imo State Stakeholder’s meeting, the Governor explicitly urged all aspirants to go meet the people for support and not wait for personal endorsement or emerge from his table. We urge the public to disregard any information suggesting that the Governor has endorsed certain aspirants, as this is not the case.

“We want to emphasize that the Governor is a true democrat who would allow true democracy ethos to thrive and committed to a free and fair election and will not influence the outcome. We therefore advise the public to discontinuance with such false information and instead focus on the issues and qualifications of the aspirants for consideration for election at the appropriate time,” he said.
