Loyalists of Osun Governor Adegboyega Oyetola and Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola have traded blames after hoodlums clashed in Ikirun on Tuesday.
Aregbesola’s goons under the caucus of The Osun Progressives (TOP) had converged beside the secretariat of Ifelodun Local Government to hold Ifelodun/Boripe/Odo-Otin Federal Consistency party meeting when the incident occurred.
It was learnt that local government officials approached them to demand the permission letter they obtained to have a meeting beside the road via the secretariat.
A security source said: “There was an altercation at that point and the APC members attacked the officials in the presence of the police and civil defence officers. Later, another set of hoodlums repelled the attack. In the process, people were injured.”
The secretary of Aregbesola’s caucus, Adelani Baderinwa, alleged that Caretaker Chairman of the Council, Mr Hassan Okanlawon, led the attack on them twice.
“The hoodlums attacked us again when Rasak Salinsile wanted to give his speech,” he was quoted as saying. L
Okanlawon, however, said it was Aregbesola’s supporters that attacked him and others.
“Aregbesola’s supporters injured two people at the scene. I was also injured because I questioned why they were holding their meeting beside the road and without permission from the police.
“They disrupted the activities of the secretariat today. It was a terrible attack,” he stated.
