Gunmen suspected to be members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) have sacked a school in Imo state.
Students of Comprehensive Secondary School, Nkume in Njaba local government area of the state were, on Monday, preparing to take their English papers when the gunmen barged in.
The gunmen chased the students away, thereby jeopardising the ongoing Junior Secondary School Examination.
The gunmen, believed to be operatives of IPOB’s militia arm, the Easter Security Network (ESN), also set a school building on fire, commentary in a video of the aftermath showed. The attack was reportedly carried out to enforce IPOB’s sit-at-home order.

Led by Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB wants to carve out its own nation of Biafra from Nigeria. The separatists’ agitation led to Kanu’s arrest and to a wide-ranging clampdown on the group’s activities.
The Nigerian government has also banned the group and declared it a terrorist organisation.
