Jigawa mandate compulsory Hijab for Female Security Operatives, Launches Innovation Drive

The Jigawa State Government has directed private security firms in the state to allow their female workers to wear hijabs while on duty. The move, announced by the Commissioner of Information, Sagir Musa, follows recommendations from a Council Committee report and is aimed at promoting religious and cultural inclusion.
The directive affects female operatives among the 9,969 security personnel recently recruited across schools, hospitals, and courts. The government believes the decision will boost morale and confidence while reinforcing workplace dignity and respect for cultural values.
In the same briefing, the State Executive Council also approved N516.1 million for the purchase of return and one-way tickets for 185 Jigawa students studying medical-related courses at Near East University, Cyprus. The move is part of the state’s continued investment in education and human capital development.
Additionally, the council announced the launch of the Jigawa State Creativity and Innovation Week (JISCIW), starting in 2025, to showcase and support talents in technology, design, entrepreneurship, and the arts.
