Lagos to Introduce Special Number Plates for Persons with Disabilities

The Lagos State Government has announced plans to roll out special number plates for Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWD) as part of efforts to promote inclusivity and social equity.

Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, revealed the initiative during the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing on Tuesday, marking the second anniversary of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term.

The initiative, driven by the THEMES Plus policy framework, aims to recognize and better support PLWDs across the state. Osiyemi explained that the Lagos State Number Plate Production Authority (LSNPPA) will produce the new plates, which will help in identifying vehicles owned by PLWDs.

The LSNPPA, responsible for all vehicle number plate production in the state, also disclosed that it produced over 218,000 standard number plates between May 2024 and March 2025. The agency is also working with the FRSC on eco-friendly alternatives under the state’s Go Green campaign.
