Mob Justice Backfires: Two Lagos Drivers Jailed for Assaulting LASTMA Officials

A Lagos Mobile Court has sentenced two commercial drivers, Mohammed Musa and Muhammed Nasara, to three months in prison for leading a mob attack on LASTMA officials enforcing traffic rules along the Victoria Island/Lekki corridor.

The attack occurred on Monday, April 7, after LASTMA operatives apprehended Musa’s minibus for obstruction-related offenses near Mekwen Bridge. In retaliation, the driver allegedly mobilized others, arriving in two additional buses, to launch a violent assault on the officers.

LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, hailed the swift court ruling delivered on April 8, saying it reinforces the agency’s zero-tolerance policy on attacks against its personnel. He warned commercial drivers against lawlessness and vowed continued enforcement across the state.

According to LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs, Taofiq Adebayo, the prompt intervention of security forces led to the arrest of two of the attackers, who were immediately arraigned in Oshodi.

The verdict has been described as a stern warning to those who challenge lawful authority in Lagos.
