Navy Seizes 1,306 Bags of Smuggled Rice in Lagos Anti-Smuggling Operation

The Nigerian Navy has intercepted 1,306 bags of smuggled foreign rice in the Majidun community of Ikorodu, Lagos State, during a routine patrol under Operation AWATSE.

Led by Commodore Paul Nimmyel of NNS BEECROFT, the operation took place on April 12, 2025, after smugglers tried to evade a Navy checkpoint, prompting a swift chase by the Quick Response Team.

No casualties were recorded, and the confiscated rice has been handed over to the Nigeria Customs Service. The Navy pledged continued support in the fight against economic sabotage.
