NDLEA Intercepts Canadian Cannabis Hidden in Mattresses at Lagos Port

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has uncovered a large consignment of exotic cannabis concealed inside mattresses at the Tin Can Island Port in Lagos.
Commander of the Strategic Command, Mitchell Ofoyeju, disclosed that the operation followed a routine search of containers arriving from Montreal, Canada. A total of 63.75 kilogrammes of cannabis indica was recovered.
Ofoyeju revealed that the drugs were hidden in 128 parcels—three stashed in the trunk of a Toyota Venza and 125 cleverly concealed in two large mattresses, which officers had to cut open.
He noted a growing preference among drug users for Canadian-grown cannabis over local variants, citing its higher market value as a major motivation for traffickers.
“This seizure was made possible through diligent surveillance and teamwork. Our efforts are part of a broader strategy to prevent the port from being used as a channel for drug trafficking,” Ofoyeju added.
