Opponents would’ve mocked me if I lost senatorial bid – Oshiomhole
A former Governor of Edo State and senator representing Edo North Senatorial District, Adams Oshiomhole, says he would have been ridiculed by his political opponents if he had lost the February 25 senatorial election.
Oshiomhole stated this during the post-inauguration/thank you party hosted in his honour by friends and well wishers at his country home, Iyamho, Etsako West Local Government Area of the state.
The senator, who is a former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, also said he would represent Edo North but that he had an obligation to ensure that the state benefit from the Federal Government, led by President Bola Tinubu.
He also said he was ready to sacrifice his senatorial ambition for Tinubu’s victory. He thanked the Afemai people for the honour done to him by voting for him.
He stated, “If you had voted against me, I don’t know what would have happened. My blood pressure will now be 240/360; that is if I’m still alive. My opponents would have ridiculed me. The jubilations would have been such that they would come and lock my small door and break my small bones, but you said no.
“There were sitting governors who contested the senatorial election across the country and many of them lost. I left office seven years ago and my people still honoured me with victory. How can I thank you enough.”
He said the Afemai were grateful people and promised to replicate the development he brought to Edo as a governor to Edo North in particular and Edo State in general
The senator also thanked the people for voting massively for President Tinubu during the elections.
He added, “During the campaign, I told you if you want to give me one vote give it to Bola Tinubu. I said it was for him to become the President even if I lost as a senator. In the end, I’m very proud to say Tinubu won and every ward Oshiomhole won.”
He assured the people that Tinubu would transform Nigeria like Lagos.
Oshiomhole stated, “Tinubu said those who say ‘Edo no be Lagos’ will be alive when he becomes president. He will not only make Edo to be like Lagos, but better than Lagos. So my people, those who say ‘Edo no be Lagos’, ‘Tinubu cannot control us’, please tell them Tinubu is now the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.”
