Osun Audit Report Uncovers 500+ Ghost Workers, NLC Denies Claims

A 2023 staff audit commissioned by the Osun State Government has uncovered over 500 suspected ghost workers on its payroll, sparking controversy across the state.
The audit, which involved physical verification and biometric data capture, identified irregularities in several institutions. At the Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke, about 280 out of just over 300 staff — including top officials — were flagged as ghost workers. Similarly, Osun State University’s audit reportedly listed 257 non-existent or undocumented staff, including more than 100 professors.
Despite the staggering figures, the Osun chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress has strongly refuted the claims. NLC Chairman Christopher Arapasopo dismissed the findings, insisting “there are no ghost workers for now.”
The state government has yet to issue an official statement on the report.
