Plateau Governor Bans Night Grazing, Cattle Transport After Fresh Killings in Bassa

Following the gruesome killing of at least 51 residents in Kwall District, Bassa LGA, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has announced a series of security measures to curb further violence. In a statewide broadcast, the governor condemned the attacks as “coordinated acts of terror” aimed at displacing communities from their ancestral lands.

Effective immediately, night grazing is banned across the state. Additionally, transporting cattle by vehicle is prohibited after 7 p.m., while motorcycle use is restricted between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Governor Mutfwang also called for the reactivation of local vigilante groups in collaboration with security agencies, as part of a broader community-based response plan. A Special Envoy on Peace will be appointed to lead grassroots engagements, while an independent Fact-Finding Committee will probe the root causes of the violence.

He assured victims of free medical care and announced that relief materials and temporary shelters are being provided for displaced persons. The governor said he had received full backing from President Bola Tinubu and warned that perpetrators and their sponsors would face justice.
