Police Arrest Notorious Kidnap Kingpin, Kill Four Gang Members in Delta

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a notorious kidnap kingpin, Abubakar Usman, also known as Shehu, and neutralised four members of his gang during a sting operation. The arrest followed a fierce gun battle on April 10, 2025.
Force PRO, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the operation in a statement on Monday, revealing that Usman had confessed to leading a deadly kidnapping syndicate involved in several high-profile crimes across the state.
According to police findings, Usman admitted to orchestrating the abduction of a medical doctor in Issele-Uku, the kidnapping and murder of Mr. Godwin Anuka’s wife and daughter in Ogwashi-Uku, and the abduction and killing of Ms. Esther Ojoh in Ibusa.
He later led operatives to the gang’s hideout in a forest along the Asaba/Agbor Expressway, where officers came under heavy gunfire. In the exchange, four gang members were killed and police recovered three AK-47 rifles and 90 rounds of live ammunition.
In a separate operation the same day in Kano State, police arrested three suspects—Abdul Sadiq, Ahmad Muazu, and Aliyu Sharif—at Dorayi Babba. Acting on a tip-off, officers discovered 15 locally made revolver rifles, 102 live cartridges, and six expended cartridges. Investigations are ongoing to trace the illegal arms factory and apprehend more suspects.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, commended the officers for their bravery and reaffirmed the force’s dedication to fighting violent crimes across the country.
