Police arrest Shatta Wale for ‘lying’ that he was shot in Ghana
The Ghana Police Service has arrested popular dancehall singer, Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, for spreading false information.
Yesterday, news made rounds that the singer was shot at East Legon in Ghana. The singer’s representative Nana Dope further posted a message via his social media account claiming that Shatta Wale had been rushed to the emergency ward of a hospital.
This triggered a reaction from the Ghanaian police as they noted through a Facebook post that they were in search of the artiste whose whereabouts was unknown at the time.
Early today, the police via their official Facebook page, stated that the singer turned himself in after they had declared him wanted. They also arrested Shatta Wale for “creation and circulation of information intended to cause fear and panic”.
The statement titled, Police have arrested Charles Nii Armah Mensah popularly known as Shatta Wale, reads:
“The Police have arrested Charles Nii Armah Mensah popularly known as Shatta Wale. After we publicly declared him and one other person wanted, the suspect, Shatta Wale, turned himself in today Tuesday 19th October 2021, at 8.59 pm.
“He has been arrested to assist the Police in investigations for his alleged involvement in the creation and circulation of information intended to cause fear and panic.
“As stated in previous statements, the public is advised to desist from publishing false information, capable of disturbing the peace of the country or risk being arrested and prosecuted.”
