Protests Erupt in Jos Over Plateau Killings as Tensions Rise

Tensions flared in Jos, Plateau State, on Monday as residents staged protests over the continued killings of indigenous people by suspected Fulani militants. The demonstrations, which caused major gridlock across parts of the city, were led by Christian leaders including the state chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Polycarp Lubo.

Protesters gathered at the Fawvwei Junction community road early Monday, expressing outrage over recent attacks that have left over 100 people dead in Bokkos and Bassa Local Government Areas in just two weeks.

“We are not happy over the continuous attacks and killings by gunmen in our communities. That’s why we have come out again to protest these happenings,” said one protester, Gyang Dalyop. Another, Hannatu Philip, urged the government to act swiftly to prevent further escalation.

With placards bearing strong messages, the protesters marched toward the Rayfield Government House, demanding justice, security, and government intervention to end the bloodshed and restore peace to the embattled region.
