Highly-respected Nigerian preacher, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye is 80 years old.
Adeboye, who is the general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), marked the occasion with 80 hours of praise which began three days ago.
The event, which was streamed live on social media and other platforms, featured leading Christian singers delivering praise and worship sessions to thank God for Adeboye’s life.
Adeboye was born on March 2, 1942, in Ifewara, near Ife, in Osun State, Nigeria.
Born into a poor family, Adeboye rose from a humble beginning to become of the most respected Christian preachers in the world.
He began his education at Ilesha Grammar School Ilesha Osun State in 1956 and later proceeded to the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) in Nsukka but because of the Nigeria Civil War, he completed his first degree in the University of Ife now (Obafemi Awolowo University), graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics in 1967.
That same year, he married Foluke Adenike with he raised four children.
In 1969, Adeboye obtained a Master’s degree in Hydrodynamics from the University of Lagos (UNILAG). In 1975, he obtained a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from the same Instituto of higher learning where he also holds a position as Professor of Mathematics.
Adeboye joined RCCG in 1973 and served as an interpreter before he was ordained a pastor by founder, Pa. Josiah Akindayomi in 1975.
He became general overseer of the church in 1981.
RCCG now has branches in about 196 nations, including more than 14,000,000 in Nigeria.
