The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) successfully held its national convention at Eagle Square in Abuja on Saturday (March 26, 2022).
The political occasion was designed to elect new party executives but the APC, as favoured by President Muhammadu Buhari, resorted to the emergence of consensus candidates for the most part.
Here are seven things you need to know about what went down in Abuja last night.
1. Senator Abdullahi Adamu was declared, via consensus, the new national chairman of the APC
Adamu is a serving member of the Senate representing Nasarawa West.
He is also a former governor of the state. Governor Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa, who is also Chairman of the Electoral Committee, announced Adamu as the winner of the contest after he was endorsed by party members and leaders at the convention via a voice vote.
Prior to the vote, six aspirants had stepped aside and endorsed Adamu as the consensus candidate. His announcement as the APC national chairman on Saturday night was only a formality.
