SERAP drags Buhari to court over EndSARS panel report, demands arrest of soldiers, police officers involved in Lekki massacre

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) says it is suing President Muhammadu Buhari and his government over what an independent panel has now determined was a massacre at the Lekki Toll Plaza in Lagos.

The alleged massacre was carried out when soldiers deployed to evict anti-police-brutality protesters from the Lekki tollgate on October 20, 2020, opened fire on the peaceful demonstrators, a panel set up by the Lagos State Government concluded.

The findings of the panel are, however, not legally binding.

“SERAP is suing the Buhari administration to compel it to immediately arrest the soldiers and police responsible for the shooting of EndSARS protesters at Lekki-Toll Gate and pay reparations to victims,” the group announced in a tweet on Tuesday.

SERAP has also opened an e-form to compile a list of Nigerians who would like to join the legal action against the administration.
