Using Satellite Dishes Is Haram, May Lead to Hell — Sheikh Habeebullah Al-Ilory Warns Muslims

I’m Renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Habeebullah Al-Ilory, has declared the use of satellite dishes as a sinful act that could prevent Muslims from entering paradise.

Speaking during a recent sermon, Sheikh Ilory stated that mounting a satellite dish on the roof of one’s home is spiritually dangerous and constitutes a haram (forbidden) act in Islam. “Anybody who uses a satellite dish and hangs it on the roof of his house and dies will not enter paradise because he/she committed haram,” he said.

The cleric’s remarks have sparked widespread debate over the role of modern technology in religious life and the boundaries of spiritual discipline.

Sheikh Ilory also addressed other controversial issues, including the participation of women in politics. He cited Saudi Arabia’s evolving policies as evidence of progress in the Islamic world, noting that what was once considered haram — such as women driving and joining the military — is now widely accepted in some Islamic societies.

Recalling criticism he received in 2010 for supporting women in politics, he said, “Not long after my statements in 2010, Saudi Arabia allowed women to vote and participate in politics.” He added that the country now permits women to wear trousers and be trained in the military.

He criticized a fellow Islamic scholar who opposed these reforms, accusing him of misinterpreting religious texts: “One Alfa who criticised this evolvement was quoting a part of the scripture I believe he has no understanding of.”

The sermon has reignited conversations on how traditional religious teachings align with modern realities in Muslim communities.
