Veekee James: Fashion’s Bold Visionary

There’s beauty in seeing a solid woman. Not just physically attractive, mentally sharp, or business-savvy. Say it out loud, and you’ll get Veekee James.
Veekee was born Ruth Erikan James in Akwa Ibom, but she grew up in Ajegunle, Lagos. Her father passed away when she was very young and her mother ran a tailoring business. From that early exposure to sewing and fabrics she built a foundation of creativity and grit.
She originally enrolled for Biochemistry at the University of Uyo but realized her heart belonged to fashion. With skill, patience and determination, she launched her label, Veekee James, in 2019. Starting small, learning on the job, experimenting, she built something from the ground up. Today her brand is known for couture gowns, body-flattering corsets, bridal looks and event-ready designs.
Veekee has also expanded her work with a menswear line, Veekee James Man, and a ready-to-wear women’s collection, Shoperikan She has dressed celebrities like Osas Ighodaro and Toke Makinwa and is committed to mentoring young creatives who want to make it in fashion.
Veekee is married to Femi Atere. They tied the knot officially in early 2024 after a relationship that began in 2019. He is a Lagos-based entrepreneur and supports her work and vision. She often credits the partnership for giving her peace, strength and an ally in business and life.
Veekee’s story shows that success is not just about talent; it is about resilience, continuous learning, faith and bold choices. She proves you can turn a passion into an empire and bring others up with you.
