World stands still as Davido celebrates 10 years of fame, glam and mixed fortunes
World-famous Nigerian singer David Adedeji Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, is ending 2021 on a high. And this is despite the tragic lows that sought to dent his brand this year and in some of the previous nine.
Lagos and the internet stood still for Omo Baba Olowo (OBO), as Davido is also called, as the superstar dragged top-rated performers and celebrities to Eko Hotel and Suites on Christmas Eve.
Who is Davido?
David, 29, is a Nigerian-American singer, songwriter and record producer who blends traditional African elements with global mainstream pop, Wikipedia authors say.
Davido won the Next Rated award in 2012 at The Headies after releasing ‘Dami Duro,’ the second single from his debut studio album ‘Omo Baba Olowo’. Davido has never looked back as he continues to rise and rise.
Davido, who hails from the political-savvy Adeleke family in Osun State, has become a household name not only on the Nigerian scene but also in Africa and the world at large, and not just in music but also in other facets of society.
The occasion, which stretched into Christmas Day, was staged to mark Davido’s 10 years of back-to-back hit songs, success, failures, philanthropy, love and everything between. We still remember how he helped Wema Bank’s career and gave over N200 million to charity.
Davido was humble enough to acknowledge the mix bag of fortunes that have graced and grilled his musical career. Recall that the singer lost close allies in the better part of the last five years.
“Tomorrow we celebrate 10 years of trials and tribulations. Through tears and smiles from many encounters. Tomorrow we celebrate everyone that has been supportive of this journey. See you soon,” Davido tweeted 24 hours before the show that was graced by the very best in the entertainment industry.
Tiwa Savage, Olamide, Adekunle Gold, Mayorkun, Naira Marley, Zlatan, Peruzzi and a host of others featured with show-stopping perfermances. Davido himself didn’t dull as he unleashed the unique energy he is known for to the delight of the physical audience and those who followed online.
And, yes, rave of the moment and energetic dancer Portable, Mr ‘Zazoo Zehh’ himself, was on hand to pay homage to the titan.
