2023: APC rejects consensus candidacy, pegs presidential nomination form at record-setting N100,000,000

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has stated it would begin selling nomination and expression of interest forms for various electoral offices from Saturday, April 23, 2022.

Also, the party has decided to select its candidates for the 2023 general election via indirect primaries. This means that delegates, and not all APC members, will elect the ruling party’s flagbearers.

APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, disclosed this shortly after the 11th National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja on Wednesday.

According to Morka, the sale of forms will run from April 23- to May 6, 2022.

He also said the party has pegged its presidential nomination and expression of interest forms at N100 million. The nomination form would go for N70 million while expression of interest forms would go for N30 million.

APC would become the first political party in Nigeria’s history to sell its presidential nomination form for that amount. In contrast, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential forms cost a N41 million in total.

Opposing an earlier announcement by the party’s national women leader, Betta Edu, that the women will get free forms, Morka said women are entitled to free nomination forms but will pay for their expression of interest forms.
