Like the title of the article states, its been its been a year since the country lost these gems. Now although they are gone, they will never be forgotten.
Sound Sultan
The death of ace Nigerian entertainer Sound Sultan came as a rude shock to millions, the ”Natural Something” crooner reportedly passed from Angioimmunoblastic T-cell Lymphoma (AITL) which is a rare form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, which is a group of related malignancies (cancers) that affect the lymphatic system (lymphomas).
Kayode Fasasi popularly known as Baba Dee, the elder brother to the deceased released a statement on July 11, 2021, confirming the singer had passed after a “hard-fought battle” with the ailment. Writing in Arabic, said Baba Dee wrote: “To Allah, we belong and to Him, we shall return.”
He is survived by a wife, three children, and his siblings.
Before his passing, Sound Sultan not only released major hits, he collaborated with some of the industry’s best and was also made a UN Ambassador for Peace for his exemplary lifestyle and career.
Rachel Oniga
Veteran actress Rachel Oniga had millions wailing in and across the globe following the news of her passing. On July 30, 2021, the ”Owo Blow,” star reportedly passed from a heart-related ailment.
Rachel before her passing starred in multiple high-grossing movies including ”A Naija Christmas, and Chief Daddy,” amongst others. A press statement confirming her death read in part; “With a heavy heart and total submission to God, we write to announce the passing of our beloved sister, mother, and grandmother, Chief Rachel Tabuno Oniga. She died in a Lagos hospital at the age of 64, on Friday, July 30, 2021, at about 10 pm…”
Tope Ajogbajesu
Nigerian gospel singer Tope Ajogbajesu kicked the bucket back on July 30, 2021.
Tope was one-half of the Ajogbajesu twins singing duo. The group’s debut album “winner” was released in 2004. They had just completed work on another project before Tope Passed. The singer had reportedly been dealing with a protracted ailment for a bit.
