Sound Sultan: 4 ways we will forever remember him

 With a career spanning up to 25 years, an array of quality and purposeful discography including his posthumous album ”Reality CHQ,” Sound Sultan is considered one of the pacesetters of modern hip-hop whose memory will endure a lifetime.

Known for his descriptively vivid lyrics and unique delivery style in tackling socio-political issues in Nigeria, Sultan has carved his name into the hearts of millions across the nation and abroad.

Record label

In 2008, following the end of his contract with Kennis Music, Sound Sultan and his elder brother Baba Dee launched their label, Naija Ninja, which housed the likes of Sean Tizzle, Young GreyC, Karma Da Rapper, and Blacka Ranks. Sultan’s posthumous album Reality CHQ” will be released under the label currently being run by Baba Dee.

Sports

Sound Sultan also made his mark in the Nigerian sporting world. Having played professionally for Dodan Warriors, a basketball club based in Lagos for a while, in 2014, Sound Sultan partnered with some investors and became the owner of a Lagos-based basketball team, the Islanders.

Movies

In 2014, Sound Sultan and his brother Baba Dee under the umbrella of Naija Ninja Entertainment released their first movie titled ”Head Gone.” The movie was also Sound Sultan’s first as a movie director and was in May 2022 screened at the New York Film Festival.
