EFCC could summon Bishop David Oyedepo, others over Pandora Papers leak

President Muhammadu Buhari has instructed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to go after Nigerians linked to the Pandora Papers, Premium Times is reporting.

The Pandora Papers is a trove of documents detailing how the super rich hide their wealth in offshore companies to avoid paying taxes like other citizens.

This month, Premium Times and other media organisations began reporting on the leaks and have linked popular Nigerian politicians, public office holders and pastors to allegedly illegal tax havens.

The EFCC has reportedly summoned former Anambra governor, Peter Obi, to explain his alleged use of a tax haven while in office.

Apart from Mr Obi, acting NPA MD, Mohammed Bello-Koko, and former minister and serving senator, Stella Oduah, have been reported in the ongoing Pandora Papers series.

Others included Governor Abubakar Bagudu of Kebbi State, Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State as well as his associates including former Lagos Bola Tinubu, and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun.

The alleged offshore links of children of former NSA Sambo Dasuki and billionaire Leno Adesanya have also made the news.

Also mentioned in the leaks is Living Faith Church (Winners Chapel) founder and fierce government critic, Bishop David Oyedepo.

It remains unclear if the EFCC will act on Buhari’s reported directive and go after everyone on the list.
