EndSARS Memorial: Police arrest man who said officers should get better salaries, welfare [WATCH]

A protester has been arrested at the Lekki Toll Plaza after claiming that “we are going to overwhelm the police”.

The protester was arrested while speaking with the media at the Lekki tollgate on Wednesday.

The apparently unarmed demonstrator complained that the government was not treating police officers fairly. He said the officers should get better salary and welfare packages, adding that such would boost their morale and enable them discharge their duties properly.

He said the failure of the government to treat the Force well has resulted in a situation where the police can be overwhelmed.

“I’m from Canada. I told the Nigerian government that they are underpaying the police.

“We said we would overwhelm them and have, indeed, overwhelmed them.

“I’m sure the police have not learned their lesson because we see that there is so much injustice in Nigeria. There has never been justice in Nigeria. /

“Look at them,” he said pointing to the police officers at the scene.

The armed police officers, who were at the scene, then took the man into custody. “Arrest this man! Arrest the idiot,” one of the officers screamed.

Watch…

The arrest occurred as Nigerians mark the first anniversary of last October’s alleged shooting of peaceful EndSARS protesters at the Lekki tollgate.
