Families protest against rescue workers who ‘went on 1-hour break’ at scene of Ikoyi building collapse [VIDEO]
Some family members and friends are protesting at the venue of the fatal building collapse in Ikoyi area of Lagos.
The protesters, we gathered are unhappy with the decision of rescue workers to take a one-hour break. They want rescue efforts to continue non-stop as those trapped under the rubble could be running out of time.
Reports say some 50 persons were trapped under the rubble but the police said that number could not be confirmed. At least 10 persons were pulled out dead, Punch reported.
The official death toll from rescue agencies stood at six as of the time of filing this report, with five others recovered alive.
A survivor reportedly jumped off the collapsing building and landed on another property where he got help.
The ill-fated property belonged to FourScore Heights Limited which, according to the authorities, decided to erect a 21-storey building despite getting a permit to build only 15 floors.
A construction consultant also reportedly pulled out of the project last February after warning that it could not vouch for the integrity of the structure which collapsed on Monday.
