With how afrobeat has continued to enjoy exponential growth in the last few years, we understand why many foreign acts have continued to venture into the musical terrains of this sound.
While some acts have ventured outside their comfort zones to fully immerse themselves in this experience birthing fascinating musical collaborations in the process, a few others have had us wondering how and why the idea was even conceived, to begin with.
This record further brought to light Davido’s protean character as it does Dababy as the rapper did a fine job running efficiently through multiple conceits, and rhymes as they crooned their way through the entirety of the song.
Now, most collaborative efforts are initiated to introduce the different sides to the theme being worked on as well as achieve a uniform goal.
While both acts won establishing their different styles on this record, their effort to achieve a combined effort of musical genius was unattainable and one thing was made clear therein, Davido makes music for Nigerians and Nigerians only.
If one thing is certain, Davido’s finesse, taking complete control of the record, and affirming his authority with a lyrical dexterity almost alien to the triad of male singers who revel in sexual themes hidden under the guise of love, vulnerability, and loss, must be celebrated. He made the song listenable.
As to if Dababy achieved the goal of stamping his foot in the Nigerian music industry, it’s a no, and not even the ”Coming To American” themed video could snag him this spot.
