Hard to stop oil bunkering because army, navy, police, NSCDC are involved — Wike

Governor Nyesom Wike says the army, the navy, the police, and other security agencies are the major reasons the war against oil bunkering is very difficult Rivers state.

According to Wike, these security agencies are fully involved in the crime they should be fighting against.

Wike said that Nigeria’s economy would remain vulnerable if such criminal activities, including artisanal refining of crude oil, continued unabated.

The governor said security agencies have not helped matters but are frustrating the government’s effort to curb the menace of illegal refining of crude oil.

Wike spoke when he donated 14 ballistic gunboats to the Navy, Army, the Police, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) at the NNS Pathfinder, Naval Base, Rumuolumeni in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area at the weekend.

“Most of the problem we have with illegal oil bunkering is that security agencies are fully involved in this illegal oil bunkering,” he alleged.

“That’s the truth. Civil defence is involved. Army is involved. Police are involved. The Navy is involved. Let us tell ourselves the simple truth.”
