Joke Silva, RMD, other top celebs applaud as Olu Jacobs buries death rumours to headline AFRIFF Globe Awards 2021

A-listed Nollywood actors are congratulating their legendary colleague Olu Jacobs for bagging a major award.

The award came weeks after rumours spread online that the movie icon had passed on, with the false news later dismissed by Jacob’s wife, Joke Silva, who clarified that her husband was “hale and hearty”.

The rumours also got a deadly blow when Jacobs stepped into the public space on Saturday night to headline the 2021 edition of the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) Globe Awards.

Olu Jacobs, who was accompanied by Joke Silva and their son. Moments after GoldMyne TV, which covered the event live, posted a video of Olu Jacobs appearance on Instagram, many Nigerians used the comments section to heap praises on the icon.

As it turned out on the night, Olu Jacobs received the Life Time Achievement Award for his contribution to the Nigerian movie industry.

  • Lifetime Award – Multichoice (received by John Ube)
  • Heritage Award for Outstanding Partner – Access Bank (received by Herbert Nwigwe)
  • Best Feature Film – ‘Trees For Peace’
  • Lifetime Achievement Award – Olu jacobs
  • Audiences Choice Awards – ‘Hail Mary’ (directed by Nnamdi Canadu)

“Congratulations my very own uncle Olu Jacobs,” Richard Mofe-Damijo wrote in an Instagram post shortly after the awards.

“A well-deserved Life Time Achievement Award. Because of you, I am. Pathfinder you are. I celebrate you and your family this morning,” he wrote.

“Lifetime Achievement Award winner, Sir Olu Jacobs,” Joke Silva wrote in praise of her celebrated husband.
