‘Love Damini’: The musings of an uninspired creative winning in today’s world (MUSIC REVIEW)

If coherence was the determining factor for music releases, Burna will occasionally have to seat several releases out. His kaleidoscope of melodies, on the other hand, is priceless.

Several listens in ”Love Damini” can best be described as the inaudible musings of an uninspired creative winning in a world where the barest minimum is required.

As Burna/Damini struggled to articulate his thoughts on the 19-track album, some wins are recorded just barely enough to save the project from its blandness. Addressing socially conscious and relatable themes on a few tracks came in handy, despite being done with a slew of uninteresting and lackluster lyrics.

Different Sizes ft Vict0ny had the ”common person” in mind when the record was being conceptualization. The track achieved the goal of communicating the simplified thoughts processes of an average cisgender man. On if Vict0ny bodied the song, he did just about what his might could avail him lyrically, melodically and otherwise.

”Science,” Burna finally made an entrance on the second track on the record crooning away as he alludes to being mesmerized by a love interest before subtly addressing the ”Cubana”club incident with dodgy idioms.
”Anywhere me dey the girls want come over…
you’re playing Russian roulette with a loaded revolver…”
this could be me getting deeper than necessary as this will beg the question,

When was this track made? Was it hurriedly made as it emits this energy like several tracks on this album.

Did Burna just address the club shooting with the lyrics ”Japa” softly echoing in the background? Since the shooting, the singer has remained overseas, touring nations.

‘Cloak and Dagger” featuring ‘J Hus’ saw the beautiful merging of two genres, a welcoming surprise on the album, one word, it is a ”Solid.”

On ”Whiskey,” Burna shed more light on the situation of things in Port-Harcourt, especially on the health hazard prevalent in the state. My favorite tracks on this project will have to be ”Common PersonIt’s Plenty,” like Burna stated, just immerse yourself in the experience.

‘How bad could it be, Love Damini,” almost feels trance-like only to be jolted back to reality 19 songs later.

Love, Damini, sees Burna working through his abandonment issues, fears, and goals, announcing the emergence of a new Burna Boy who doesn’t try too hard to please the audience.

”For My Hand” ft Ed Sheeran, a seamless collaborative effort was again birthed between this two. The second time working on a track together, the first being ‘Own It” by Stormzy, Burna freely expressed his desires and feelings to his love interest as sings alongside Ed Sheeran.
