Oscars drama: Jada Pinkett wishes Will Smith didn’t slap Chris Rock, needs no protection from men — source

Jada Pinkett Smith doesn’t endorse her husband’s outburst at the Oscars, an insider reportedly says.

Recall that Will Smith slapped Chris Rock after the comedian joked about his wife, Jada. Smith, who got accolades from the media for defending his woman, later apologised and resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences over the drama.

Several movies he is supposed to feature in have now been put on hold.

Also, Jada doesn’t support the slap, an insider reportedly says.

According to US Weekly, the source mentioned, “It was in the heat of the moment and it was him overreacting. He knows that she knows that. They’re in agreement that he overreacted.”

The insider further quipped that Jada ‘isn’t one of these women’ who needs protection.

“He didn’t need to do what he did, she didn’t need protecting. She’s not a wallflower. She’s a strong woman, an opinionated woman and she can fight her own battles. But she will stand by him,” the source said, according to the report.

The Oscars joke came a couple of months after Jada publically opened up about her alopecia condition, which led to excessive hair loss.

Chris Rock had likened Jada to GI Jane, a movie character that overcame natural limitations to join a military-unit dominated by men. Some analysts, after the slap, said Rock’s joke was a compliment, not an insult, to Jada.
